Join the Within the Boggart Wood Community: Patreon and Social Media

A hearty welcome to the Within the Boggart Wood Community page!

Since the project started, I’ve been researching and experimenting with the best platforms to develop a nice private Boggarty community online. A few have flopped with incredible style (ie not looked at by anyone), some have fizzled and popped and others…well… erm…

The Within the Boggart Wood Patreon Community

At its core, Patreon is a membership plafform that allows you, the humble user, to support me in my creative Boggartish endeavours if you so desire. Recent changes in the platform now allow free membership of the community to take part in discussions. If you fancy though, you can join the Court of Boggarts. This is a paid membership tier, charged at £3/month. Your support helps pay for website fees, podcast hosting, equipment and fieldwork, and more importantly will fill me with the warm glow of feeling appreciated (or caffeinated)! Of course, if you’re a member of the Court of Boggarts you get a number of rewards, including website and podcast shoutouts, free e-book downloads, exclusive videos and lots more. Have a read of the tier membership description if you’re interested…

So what seems to be the problem with social media anyway?

So, certainly for the rest of 2024, unless some interweb disaster strikes, I’m going to try and stick with the community elements linked above. I’m going to develop our main community on the Patreon platform – which with its new free membership option, live chat and discussion tools, should do what it says on the tin. For social media, I did join Mastodon a while back but haven’t got to grips with it yet. Facebook and Instagram seem to be going belly up for anyone who doesn’t pay for ads (on Facebook on average only 27% of the subscribed Facebook Group members actually see new posts!) and with their new moderation AI bots, apparently linking to your own content can be flagged as against copyright and get the posts booted… but I’ll keep these running to see if things improve. Talking around the elephant in the room though, I do think the aim will be to eventually transfer the social media side to Mastodon…

One of the great things about this podcast is reading out folks' submitted stories of the weird, wonderful and spooky. If you'd like to share a story, click the button above.
